
VEC has been providing water and waste treatment solutions to clients from 1993 onwards when we were just a research group under the direction of Prof.H.S. Shankar Dept of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay.Vision Earthcare (VEC) is a technology company, committed to delivering eco-friendly products and solutions in the area of water treatment.
The technology of VEC is Soil Biotechnology (CAMUS SBT), developed at IIT Bombay after nearly two decades of research. CAMUS-SBT uses the ecology of soil media and biological reactions within a constructed bio reactor to treat waste water. This is a giant technological leap forward from the current technologies which rely on the aquatic ecology for treatment. This technological advance allows VEC to offer an energy efficient, low maintenance, aesthetic water treatment solution, whose output water standards are far superior to any other in the market.
VEC has been incubated in the “Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship” at IIT Bombay and has been licensed to deploy this technology in various sectors to users globally.
The technology has been developed by the research group at Indian Institute Of Technology (Powai), and the same has been patented US Patent granted no. 6890432 B2
SINE has been extending the role of IIT Bombay by facilitating the conversion of homegrown research into entrepreneurial ventures.

SINE has been extending the role of IIT Bombay by facilitating the conversion of homegrown research into entrepreneurial ventures.
Our technology is based on a bio-conversion process where fundamental reactions of nature, namely respiration, photosynthesis & mineral weathering take place in a media housing micro & macro organisms which bring about the desired purification. SBT is an oxygen supplying biological engine and so the process can treat all types of water – domestic municipal & industrial. SBT is suitable for treating water with salinity <10,000 mg/L. Moreover, there has been developed an advanced version of SBT called "CAMUS-SBT" which is capable of even higher levels of purification.
The process requires mesophyllic temperatures; so where the ambient temperatures are low/ very low a greenhouse infrastructure appropriate for the local conditions houses the SBT plant. However the process can work at high ambient temperatures.
Our facilities consist a raw water tank, bioreactor containment , treated water tank and where appropriate a greenhouse and associated piping, pumps & electrical.
Water or waste water is pumped over the bioreactor; the suspended solids are removed by the top media which is scrapped and discarded into municipal solid waste. The water trickles into the bed and treated water collects in the filtrate tank. Recirculation pumps are provided to obtain desired hydraulic retention times; in general purification to desired quality is achieved in one pass and so these recirculation pumps are not used.

CAMUS-SBT is an oxygenation engine that outperforms conventional technologies
Like Activated Sludge Process (ASP), Sequential Batch Reactor (SBR), Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) and Moving Bed Bio-reactor (MBBR). Our technology harnesses a special set of bio-chemical reactions to deliver the oxygenation required for effluent treatment.
In conventional technologies, aeration is achieved mechanically, which is very energy intensive. At higher ambient temperatures (like in India) the solubility of oxygen in water is low, therefore energy requirements of mechanical aeration used by conventional technology increases. Moreover, air contains only 20% oxygen, the rest being nitrogen that is passed into water wastefully, further adding to process inefficiency.
CAMUS-SBT resolves this problem using a bio-chemical method of oxygenation, which not only uses the atmospheric oxygen, but also uses the nitrogen from the atmosphere in a specially engineered ecology to achieve the desired level of purity.
In addition conventional technologies generate large amount of sludge for which additional disposal facilities have to be created. CAMUS-SBT does not face any such problems.
We are at SINE of IIT B which has been set up as an umbrella for homegrown technologies.
We work in close association with IITB and we have ready access to the latest innovation relating to the technology developed by Prof H.S.Shankar of Chemical Engineering Department.
